Richard Hurlbert Obituary

Richard Wayne Hurlbert, 68, of Terryville, husband of Debra (Kucirka) Hurlbert, passed away at home unexpectedly, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born December 28, 1957, in Bristol, son of Blanch Barry and the late Lloyd Hurlbert.

Prior to his illness, Richard was employed by Rowley Spring and Stamping. He received his pilot’s license in 2005 and loved to fly. He often went to Robertson airport to watch the planes take off and land. He enjoyed going out to breakfast on Saturdays with his best friend, Michael Bobinski. He loved to relax on the couch and watch Sci-Fi movies, and he really enjoyed his naps. Whenever he and Debra were out, he would always grab her hand to hold. He also loved his kitties, Willow and Shadow. Richard had a kind heart and he will be deeply missed.

Besides his beloved wife of over 40 years, he is survived by his brothers, Llyod Hurlbert and his wife Cathy of FL, and Keith Hurlbert of Norwich; his sisters, Darlene Garcia of FL, Trisha Craze of Hartford, and Kim Nadjoika and her husband Mike of Southington; his sister-in-law Holly Kucirka of Bristol; a very special nephew Brian Schermerhorn who he loved very much and his fiancée Lynn Kelly and their daughter Shea. He also leaves behind an aunt and uncle, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Besides his father, Richard was predeceased by his stepmother Nellie Hurlbert, and his sisters, Diane Fremouth, Donna Pardo, and Debbie Haines.

The family would like to say “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses at the Hartford Healthcare Cancer Institute: Oncology Department for taking such great care of Richard.
